Josh Ling is a microinsurance actuary with over 7 years’ experience working as an actuary in both microinsurance and insurance. Prior to joining MiCRO, Josh worked for the World Bank’s Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance team, advising governments on the financial management of the risks of natural disasters.

Josh started his career as an insurance actuary with Deloitte Consulting (Australia), working on various pricing, reserving, valuation and insurance scheme design projects. In 2011, Josh began working for the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Microinsurance Innovation Facility team where he co-authored papers on microinsurance and supported technical missions in a wide variety of countries. Josh then became a Fellow of the ILO’s Microinsurance Innovation Facility in Mexico City working with an association of rural Mexican microfinance banks (AMUCSS). During his time at AMUCSS, Josh was involved in designing a savings-linked life microinsurance product, and implemented improvements to the existing life and agricultural microinsurance products, including the implementation of a dashboard of KPI and actuarial indicators that would monitor the portfolio experience over time.

Josh is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA). He has a Master of Commerce and a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies, both from Macquarie University in Sydney. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and speaks conversational German.
